History

When you descend the steps of The Dubliner, you are entering one of the most important historical sites in Prague, the building dates to the 11th century. As you sit at the bar and let your mind wander, allow yourself to picture the comings and goings of the different merchants. The building was used to collect custom charges(ungelt) on foreign goods brought into Prague. In the following centuries, Prague customs system lost its importance and was used just for trade within Prague. Today the merchants have been replaced by our guests who now enjoy live music and great craig seven nights a week in Prague’s No. 1 Irish Bar.

During the summer we have a very welcoming Garden right in the middle of the Tyn courtyard. The old name “Tyn” means “enclosure”. It was an enclosed courtyard, protected by a ditch and walls from the rest of the town. Merchants from Europe and Asia used to meet there, store their goods and relax for a while. Everyone who entered the Tyn courtyard was under the protection of the king, that´s why everyone had to pay to get there but got to relax after their long journeys. Now you get to enjoy our tastiest of food, summer wine and your favorite cocktails while letting your imagination flow and enjoy an idyllic hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Old Town Square.

But also, do not let yourself miss the magnificence of the Old Town Square. Being Prague's heart since the 10th century and its main marketplace until the beginning of the 20th century, the spacious 1.7-hectare Old Town Square has been the scene of great events, both glorious and tragic.
